Sparring
At Silk Wind, we devote significant time and effort towards teaching and refining the Basics as the foundation for the more sophisticated elements of the art.
As teachers of internal arts, we also include specialized instruction for breathing, meditation, balance, and soft skills as needed to enhance the student's ability to learn and execute the physical skills.

For each of these basic skills, we train improvised drills and exercises to develop good mechanics through careful supervision, correction, and many repetitions!  We also teach the
Sets of the American Kenpo curriculum as defined by founder, Ed Parker, to isolate, solidify, and improve these basic skills.

Sparring, or freestyle, is introduced after the student has demonstrated a level of proficiency with their basics, and has also proven a level of control with his training partners.  Sparring comes in many varieties, and there are several exercises and drills we use to prepare the student for freestyle.  Sparring is intregal to the student's developement of timing, distance, positioning, and endurance. ** please note that we do not include freestyle sparring in our kids classes, or teens below blue belt **
