Welcome to the Silk Wind Studio Yoga Page. Yoga has had a wonderfully transforming effect on my life and sharing the practice and teachings of yoga with my students has become one of my greatest joys. At Silk Wind, yoga classes are taught on an on-going basis at a general level. Class sizes are small so I remain attentive to your individual needs through compassionately applied modifications and adjustments.
I teach Anusara-inspired Yoga classes which refers to the system of Hatha yoga founded in 1997 by John Friend that integrates the Tantric philosophy of intrinsic goodness with "Universal Principles of Alignment"

Classes consist of flowing, graceful ASANA (postures), with several static postures integrated into the practice; PRANAYAMA (breath work), YOGIC PHILOSOPHY, and MEDITATION. The integration of these practices produces feelings of bliss, well-being, inner peace, and self worth.
WHAT IS YOGA?

The word
yoga comes from the Sanskrit word YUJ, meaning to yoke or bind and is often interpreted as "union." Yoga is both the process of reconciling opposites and the final state of balanced harmony, or union.  Yoga is the scientific art of remembering our true nature and aligning with the pulsation and graceful flow of that nature.
WHAT DOES HATHA MEAN?

In some yogic texts, the word
hatha refers to the conjunct of ha (sun) and tha (moon); once again referring to the integration of opposites. The literal translation of hatha means 'to strike' or 'force', or the yoga of willpower. However, hatha yoga will never force what is unnatural on a practitioner. Hatha yoga refers to a set of physical exercises and sequences of asanas, designed to align your skin, muscles, and bones. The postures are also designed to open the many channels of the body, especially the main channel - the spine - so that energy can flow freely.

In Anusara Yoga, the postures are considered to be
heart-oriented and expressed from the inside out. The postures radiate from within and reflect our innate goodness, power, beauty, and divinity.
