| Ba Gua Zhang Workshop Series 64 Hands of Liu De Kuan Ba Gua Zhang, or Eight Trigrams Palm, is an internal martial art with many similar qualities as Tai Chi Chuan. Bagua, however is practiced while continuously walking, and with proficiency you are encouraged to increase speed making it a more rigorous workout. As with its sister art, Bagua consists of philosophical, meditative, and energetic aspects in addition to the combative. The 64 HANDS set consists of 8 sequences, each made up of 8 techniques for a total of 64 'hands.' Although this set is traditionally taught through Bagua schools, it is clearly representative of Liu De Kuan's mastery of all three Internal Martial Arts. As such, the practice of 64 Hands will enhance the knowledge of students of Bagua, Tai Chi Chuan, and Xingyi, and provide practitioners a cross reference to these styles. The 64 Hands set differs from most Bagua sets in that it is practiced in lines, rather than walking the circle, as Master Liu originally developed it when he was commissioned to teach large groups of soldiers in the Chinese army. One sequence, or 'line', will be covered in each monthly session. Since each sequence is completely independent, they can be learned in any order... making each workshop accessible for 'drop ins' and those otherwise unable to attend consecutive sessions. 2012 Workshop Dates: Sundays: 1/15, 2/26, 3/18, 4/15, 5/20, 6/17, 7/15, 8/19 Time: 12:30 - 3:00pm Cost: $200 to register for entire 8 workshop series, or $30 each to register individually (in advance), or $35 day of workshop. |
